DAY ONE
Day One of the Bench Press championships, this year held in the beautiful city of Budapest. With packed schedule of more than 600 lifters, the competition started with Masters M3 and M4 women and Masters 4 men in the first session, Masters 3 Men in the second session, Masters 2 Women in Session 3, Masters 2 men in session 4 and finally, after a very long day, Masters 1 Women in session 5. What a great introduction to the competition this was with some phenomenal lifting all round. Far too any athletes to name them all but special mention to Anita Thimm of Germany who set a new world record of 65.5 kg in Masters 4, -69 kg class, and Regina Haas with a massive new world record of 95.5 kg in Masters 3, -76 kg class.
In the second session with the Masters 3 men and we saw a new world record by Andy Rigby of Great Britain, lifting 201 kgs in the -105 kg class in what was a fantastic session of Masters 3 men.
The third session was a triumph for Great Britain with Lincoln Rose winning gold in the -69 weight class and Elaine Jackson, gold in the 84+ class.
All in all, too many great athletes and performances to mention them all, but a great first day and we look forward to what unfolds in the coming week! Don’t forget to follow the live feed!
