The European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) strongly condemns all forms of racism and prejudice. Theese attitudes stand in direct opposition to the core values of sport, fair play, and human dignity.
In accordance with our constitution and ethical guidelines, no discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, will ever be tolerated within the EPF. We believe that all athletes, officials, and spectators deserve to be treated with equal respect and dignity.
The EPF extends its sincere sympathies and heartfelt support personally to Sonita Muluh and to any other individuals who has suffered or experienced any form of racist attitude, behavior or action. We stand in solidarity with those affected, and we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that our community remains a safe space for everyone.
Furthermore, the EPF expresses its sincere appreciation for the swift, decisive action taken by the Lithuanian Powerlifting Federation. Their immediate reaction and implementation of a lifetime suspension for the perpetrator demonstrates the zero-tolerance policy that our sport requires.
The EPF Executive Committee takes this matter with the utmost seriousness and has developed practical measures aimed at preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
From now and on every member of the Spotters and Loaders Team will be required to sign a declaration affirming their commitment to the core values of the sport and acknowledging their responsibility to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of every athlete on the competition platform.
In addition, each Championship Organizing Committee will be required to sign a declaration confirming that all individuals involved in the organization and delivery of the event have been appropriately vetted and that, to the best of their knowledge, no person associated with the event promotes or advocates racist, extremist, discriminatory, or hateful views.
Any breach of these declarations or failure to comply with their commitments will constitute grounds for disciplinary action. Where appropriate, sanctions may include a financial penalty, with the amount directed to the affected athlete.
Looking ahead to the European Bench Press Championships 2026 in Druskininkai, Lithuania, the EPF guarantees that all volunteers, staff, and hired personnel will undergo thorough background checks prior to the event to safeguard the integrity of the competition.
The EPF remains fully dedicated to taking every necessary action to guarantee that our championships are safe space for our athletes, officials and spectators to ensure our sport remains a force for unity.
