Day three, Saturday, and the first session started the day with the 93 kg men. First up with the squats and what a great session it was, a close-run battle with great performances and lots of drama. Bula Vojtec of The Institute of Technology and Business in Ceske Budejovice [CZE] and Nejc Rebolj of the University of Ljubljana [SLO] both only missing out on medals on bodyweight. It was definitely a close field in this discipline.
Bench Press, and a new EUSA record to end the session by Maxim Uebel of the Royal Institute of Technology [SWE] with 190.5 kg. We had a Swedish 1, 2 and 3 in this bench session with Jan Duma of the Military University of Technology [POL] the best of the rest.
Deadlift and another new EUSA record by Erik Lindblad of Chalmers University of Technology [SWE] with 302.5 kg. What a close competition this was again. Total weights were Eric Lindblad 720 kg, Maxim Uebel 705.5 kg and Konstantinos Barounis 692.5 kg.
The afternoon session brought us the 105 kg men, and an outstanding squat session with Emil Johansson of Umea University [SWE], setting a new EUSA record with all three of his attempts and finishing with a 278 kg lift. Closely followed by Grzelak Szymon of WSB University Torun [POL] and Josua Lipka of Umea University [SWE].
Bench brought two more records for Johansson and a brief one for Paul Bejenariu of 1 Decembrie 1918 University of Alba Iulia [ROU] and then again in deadlift, records were smashed, this time by Grzelak Szymon and Mateusz Baginski of Wroclaw University [POL], ending in a gripping finale in which Baginski took gold, followed closely on his heels by Szymon and Johansson. Such magnificent performances from all and a very exciting deadlift competition brought a stunning conclusion to this great day, with Johansson getting gold on total weight with 763.5 kg, Szymon silver with 742 kg and Baginski bronze on 321.5 kg.
