EUROPEAN OPEN/ SUB JUNIOR/JUNIOR/MASTER CLASSIC AND EQUIPPED BENCH PRESS CHAMPIONSHIPS, BUDAPEST

DAY FIVE REPORT

Day Five, and this was an exciting day by any standards, with a lot of surprises and a few disappointments.  The day began with the Sub Junior Men and Best Lifters were 16 yr old Gabriel Blazicek of Slovakia with 165 kg lift in the -83 kg class, Jakub Zavodny, again of Slovakia with a 210 kg lift in the 120+ kg class and in his last year as a Sub Junior,   and 17 yr old Mikolaj Sliwinski of Poland with 130 kg in the -66 kg class.  In the Junior men, Best Lifters were Kevin Schmid of Austria, Denis Kurecka of Czech Republic, and Kinishchuk Rostyslav of Ukraine.

The Sub Junior women were next to show off their strength and Poland took gold and silver in the Best Lifters with Natalia Selwicek and Natalia Lasek.  Bronze was Rehina Fursenko of Ukraine.  The Junior women, and again a great turnout by Poland.  This team’s celebrations were somewhat dampened by the legendary Zuzanna Kula of Poland failing to make a lift, but no doubt she will be back with a vengeance in time for the next competition, in this, her last year of Juniors.  Best lifters in this session were Karolina Kolata of Poland, Agnes Rudin of Sweden and Klaudia Murza of Poland.

The final session of the day took us back to the Masters, this time Master’s One men.  And what an exciting session it was to end the day.  Some phenomenal lifting, and Rene Gross of Germany stole the show with his stunning 332.5 kg lift which was discounted in Round Three but overturned shortly afterwards by the Judges.  So, this was nail-biting literally right to the very end.

Tomorrow is the last day of this event in Budapest, and we look forward to seeing the Men´s and Women´s Open competition starting at ten.  Don’t forget to follow the live feed!
