| 10 May 2009: Finland's Jari Martikainen totalled 1022.5kg to win gold in the men's superheavyweight category on the final day of the 2009 European Powerlifting Championships. Poland won the men's team competition and the Ukraine won the women's title. The men's and women's best lifter awards went to Poland's Jaroslaw Olech and Antoinetta Orsini from Italy. |
| 08 May 2009: Ukrainian Ivan Freydun bench pressed a world record 291.5kg in the men's 100kg class on day three of the 2009 European Powerlifting Championships. Freydun's winning total of 1021.5kg currently ranks him second in the men's best lifter competition, behind Jaroslaw Olech. Italy's Antoinetta Orsini leads the women's competition, after totalling 575kg to take gold in the 67.5kg category. |
